7th European Symposium on Plant Lipids
5-8 July 2015, Harpenden, Hertfordshire. UK

[updated 12.08.2014]

Dear Colleagues,

We are delighted to be hosting the 7th European Symposium on Plant Lipids organized by Euro Fed Lipid. For your diaries please note the symposium will be held in Harpenden, England from July 5th to the 8th, 2015. The symposium will be in the newly opened conference centre on site at Rothamsted Research, the oldest agricultural research institute in the world, and based in Harpenden, Hertfordshire.

Harpenden is exceptionally well-connected to both rail and air transportation networks, yet still retains the feel of a typical historic English village. There are many remarkable historical and cultural attractions only a short journey from Harpenden, with central London, Oxford and Cambridge all within easy reach.

It is our pleasure to host this event, continuing the series of meetings illuminating the key functions of plant lipids. The scientific program will include oral contributions by both senior and younger scientists, covering the most exciting and challenging areas of plant lipid research. We hope that this meeting in Harpenden will showcase the very best of current advances in the field, and also provide a stimulating environment to catalyse dynamic interactions and collaborations. We look forward to welcoming you all to Rothamsted and Harpenden.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I'd like to kindly invite you to support this symposium by attending the conference and presenting your latest results.

Congress Dinner

[updated 06.01.2015]
Luton Hoo The congress dinner takes place at at the Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf & Spa, The Mansion House, Luton, Bedfordshire, LU1 3TQ.

Over the years Luton Hoo has counted many heads of state and members of royalty among its visitors including Queen Mary, Edward VII and Lord Mountbatten. In 1947, the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh spent part of their honeymoon in one of the mansion's vast state bedrooms, and returned to celebrate future wedding anniversaries.

There has been a house on the present site of Luton Hoo since at least 1601 when Robert Napier bought the estate. Today's mansion house dates from the late 18th century when it was the seat of the 3rd Earl of Bute, then Prime Minister to George III. The famous landscape designer, Capability Brown, was engaged to redesign the surrounding parkland and gardens which now extend to 1,065 acres.

The house has been a very popular location with television and film makers, being used for films such as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Enigma, Eyes Wide Shut, Inspector Morse, Nicholas Nickleby, Vanity Fair and Bleak House to name but a few.

Time: to be advised
Costs: 75 Euro including drinks
Transport: to be advised, the hotel is located some kilometer outside Harpenden

Harpenden

[updated 25.07.2014]
(cited from www.hertfordshire.com)
Harpenden is an attractive town, surrounded by countryside but with easy access into nearby towns and also into London. Nearby towns include St Albans (5 miles south), Luton (5 miles north), Hemel Hempstead (7 miles south west) and Welwyn Garden City (7 miles east).

aer
roth Harpenden's origin is as an agricultural and farming community. The arrival of a railway station on the Luton to London Kings Cross line saw the village develop. Over the past 100 years the town has become an affluent, attractive and desirable place to live with many listed buildings. The whole of the town centre is classified as a conservation area. Although Harpenden now has almost 30,000 residents, it is still often referred to as "Harpenden Village".

Harpenden Train Station is one stop south of Luton while the next stop south is St Albans. Harpenden to London Kings Cross takes about 26 minutes and so the town is popular with those commuting into the City. Although not a major shopping centre, Harpenden has a good selection of shops, supermarkets and other amenities. There are numerous estate agents to serve the town and surrounding villages.

manor
Conference For leisure and entertainment, Harpenden has a wide and varied selection of restaurants and pubs. For entertainment such as cinemas, nightclubs and theatres you need to travel to the surrounding towns. There are many golf courses surrounding the town along with tennis clubs, squash clubs and Harpenden Rugby Club.
