The BeNeLux Lipid Network has the honor to host the 14th Euro Fed Lipid Congress 18-21 September 2016 at Ghent Belgium.
The symposium will be take place at the International Conference Center (ICC) located in the green museum area close to the historical
centre of one of the most enchanting medieval cities in Europe. From 1000 until 1550 Ghent was the second most important city after
Paris in Europe. Nearly 1400 years of history are still palpable in the city today: the medieval Castle of the Counts, the city hall,
the imposed St. Bavo’s cathedral with the most important work in Flemish art The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb by the Van Eyck brothers.
Many medieval churches, the Mason’s Guild Hall, the Belfry and the old harbor are highlights in the rich history of a stubborn city.
Sciences and research are flourishing in Ghent due to a famous university and the number of institutions of higher education with more
than 70.000 students in a population of 250.000 inhabitants. Highlights are plant biotechnology, medical sciences, veterinary sciences,
bioscience engineering, food science and technology. In Belgium and the Netherlands famous universities, research institutions and industries
are contributing to a long tradition in scientific education, research and production of food and non-food products.
Belgium is famous worldwide for his Burgundy style of living with a high level of food production and gastronomy, in particular for many
traditional beers and high quality chocolates.
The region of Ghent is an economical center due to his seaport with a direct connection with the North Sea. Next to steel manufacture and cars
assembly, Ghent seaport is one of the most important harbors for the handling of agricultural products. The development of Ghent Bio -Economy
Valley has created the most important center in Europe for the production of biofuels and renewable energy.
The theme of the symposium is dealing with innovations in sustainable food and non-food production from oils, fats and lipids, covering the
integrated supply chain. Topics involve Analytics, Authenicity, Lipidomics, Biotechnology and Enzyme Technology, Health and Nutrition,
Lipids in Animal Science, Oleochemistry, Biofuel and Biosurfactants, Olive Oil and other Virgin Oils, Palm oil, Microbial and Algae Oils,
Lipid Oxidation and Quality, Physical Chemistry, Processing and sustainable Sourcing.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations must be in writing and are effective after written confirmation by Euro Fed Lipid.
Cancellations received on or before 12 August 2016 will be refunded minus a 50 Euro processing fee.
After that date until 1 September 2016, the cancellation fee is 100 Euro. There will be no refund for cancellations
after 1 September 2016 or No-Shows. However, substitute participants can be named anytime without costs.
If the congress is cancelled for whatever reason, paid fees will be refunded.
Further recourse is excluded.

Follow the E17 in the direction of Ghent and take the Gent-Centrum exit. After the Gent-Centrum exit, keep to the right
(down alongside the viaduct, follow 'alle richtingen'). Then get into the left-hand lane before the traffic lights.
At the traffic lights, turn left under the bridge onto Sint-Lievenslaan.
At the second traffic lights, double junction, follow through to the left for Oudenaarde.
Keep the Museum of Fine Arts on your left and SMAK on your right.
About 50 metres down, beyond the bend, you will find Gent ICC international convention center (Hofbouwlaan) on the right-hand side.
From Brussels/Ostend
Follow the E40 in the direction of Ghent. Then turn onto the E17 Antwerp-Ghent.
After the Gent-Centrum exit, keep to the right (down alongside the viaduct, follow 'alle richtingen'). Then get into

The Augustinian monastery (1295) offers a perfect meeting place for all kind of events. It is located in the historical centre of Gent, less than
10 minutes’ walking from the Korenmarkt, the Cathedral, the Graslei and the Belfry.
The Augustinian monastery is unique in Europe with more than 7 centuries of history. There have been prosperous and very difficult times.
In the 19 th century the building was a textile factory while monks were living in the monastery.
Even today monks are living and working in the monastery. Currently they prepare a young generation of international students who will become
monks in Belgian Augustinian monasteries.
The heart of the building is a beautifully restored inner court, a real oasis of peace and calm. The monks only recently opened the doors
of the splendid building, which is even a hidden jewel for local people.
The monastery is also known for a unique and rich heritage. In the cloisters you will discover monumental paintings. Each conference room
is decorated with artworks gathered throughout the rich and long history of the convent.
The monastery also owns a historical and beautiful library with a unique book collection in an amazing setting. Last but not least the
monastery is a unique place for concerts with a monumental baroque organ built in 1873 by Jean-Philippe Forrest.

Ghent is the second biggest Belgian city and is located in the Flemish region.
The city started as a settlement at the confluence of the Rivers Scheldt and Lys and in the Middle Ages became
one of the largest and richest cities of northern Europe. Today it is a busy city with a port and a university.

The rivers flowed in an area where a lot of land was periodically inundated. These richly grassed
marshes were ideally suited for herding sheep, the wool of which was used for making cloth. In fact,
Ghent was, during the Middle Ages, the most important city for cloth.
The wool industry, originally established at Bruges, created the first European industrialized zone in Ghent in the #1 in the
High Middle Ages. The mercantile zone was so highly developed that wool had to be imported from Scotland and England
Much of the city's medieval architecture remains intact and is remarkably well preserved and restored. Its centre is
the largest carfree area in Belgium. Interesting highlights are the Saint Bavo Cathedral with the Ghent Altarpiece,
the belfry, the Gravensteen castle, and the splendid architecture along the old Graslei harbour. Ghent established

Local Delicacies: 'Stoverij' is a classic Flemish meat stew, preferably made with a generous addition of brown 'Trappist'
(strong abbey beer) and served with French fries. 'Waterzooi' is a local stew originally made from freshwater fish caught
in the rivers and creeks of Ghent, but nowadays often made with chicken instead of fish. It is usually served
nouvelle-cuisine-style, and will be supplemented by a large pot on the side.
