The welcome reception on sunday evening will take place at the main hall of the Royal Museum, Chambers Street (same block as Playfair Library):
The congress banquet will be held at the Playfair Library Hall at the Old College of Edinburgh University.
The original College of the University of Edinburgh was founded in 1583 at the instigation of Edinburgh Town Council. The foundation stone of the present Old College was laid in 1789. The Playfair Library Hall, with its magnificent barrel-vaulted ceiling, is one of the finest Neo-classical interiors in Britain. It is 58 m long, 15 m wide and 12 m high, its length being broken at the entrance and at the further end by a pillared Chamber with natural roof lighting, and its breadth by bookcases projecting from the outer walls to form the reading alcoves. The Hall was designed principally for storage and display of the older collections - the working library for books which were borrowed by staff and students being provided on the floor below. The grand staircase to the Upper Library was designed to display the University's collection of pictures. The Playfair Library Hall was in use as part of the University Library until 1967. It is now used for formal Dinners, Receptions and Lectures.

A fascinating tour to many places connected with "Braveheart" - Sir William Wallace. It was Wallace, who in 1297 defeated the English at Stirling Bridge, only to be later captured and executed by King Edward. First stop is Linlithgow, with its Palace ruins dating from 1424 overlooking a lovely loch. James V and his daughter, the ill-fated Mary Queen of Scots, were born here. You'll have a chance to visit imposing Stirling Castle. It stands on a sheer crag looking down towards Bannockburn, the battlefield where in 1314 Robert the Bruce defeated the English. James V turned the castle into one of Scotland's most sumptuous palaces, it becoming the home of the Scottish Court. We end our tour on a real high-note as we drive along the "bonnie, bonnie banks" and, if you wish, enjoy an optional cruise on Loch Lomond.
STIRLING CASTLE - Admission Included
Mighty Stirling Castle is set high on a volcanic plug and is one of the historic buildings, which has come to symbolise the spirit of Scotland. On our leisurely visit to the castle we'll have a chance to see the splendid Renaissance Royal Palace of King James V and the magnificent Chapel Royal where Mary Queen of Scots was crowned in 1543. The views from the castle ramparts are just stunning.

From Edinburgh we travel to the small village of Pencaitland to visit the Glenkinchie Malt Whisky Distillery. Glenkinchie is one of the famous Classic Malts. On our visit we will tour the distillery to hear all about the distillers art. Later we will have a tutored tasting of five malt whiskies that will allow you to savour the differences between Highland, Lowland and Islay Malts.

Discover the home of golf and much more besides. After leaving Edinburgh we cross the River Forth to the Kingdom of Fife and drive through the scenic fishing village of Anstruther, before arriving in St Andrews. On arrival there will be an orientation tour of the town, then free tome to explore the grounds of the ancient university, the castle or Cathedral, visit the Old Course and British Golf Museum, or simply shop!
