6th European Symposium on Plant Lipids
7-10 July 2013, Bordeaux, France
[updated 07.08.2012]
Dear colleagues,
We are delighted to be hosting the 6th European Symposium on Plant Lipids organized by Euro Fed Lipid. The symposium will be held
in Bordeaux, France from July 7th-10th, 2013
The site for the Congress is the Ibis hotel Meriadek located in a walking distance of the city centre. Bordeaux is a UNESCO world
Heritage city, rich in history, culture, arts, music, legendary wines and cuisine. Bordeaux is not only the wine capital of the
world, but also a vibrant modern city complete with restaurants, shopping and entertainment.
The view on the biological functions and specialized roles of lipids is changing rapidly. Lipids are not longer recognized as
building blocks of biological membranes, they are considered as important dynamic actors of many biological processes. Lipidomics
has revealed an impressive structural complexity of membrane and storage lipids as well as novel metabolites and pathways. This
diversity of the lipidome raises new investigation fields in cellular processes like lipid homeostasis and lipid signalling.
The scientific program will include oral contributions by senior and younger scientists will cover all the different areas of
lipid research. We hope that this venue in Bordeaux will provide highlighted plant lipid researches an exciting two and a half
days meeting as well as god opportunities for exchanges and collaborations. We look forward to seeing you in Bordeaux.
On behalf of the Organizing Committee,
Rene Lessire Bordeaux Euro Fed Lipid division "Plant Lipids"

Château Luchey-Halde is located in greater Bordeaux, within the prestigious appellation Pessac-Léognan.
A direct descendant of vineyards of the past, Château Luchey-Halde has inherited the very ancient Bordeaux tradition of vine-growing.
During the Roman era, vines that would become Château Luchey-Halde were first planted on the pebble-strewn ridges, known as "Graves",
surrounding the historic city center of Bordeaux.
Over the centuries, the high quality of this terroir and the reputation for
excellence of Graves wines shielded both Luchey and Halde holdings from being turned over to non-viticultural uses.
The noble houses of Luchey and of Saint-Angel (the name previously given to Halde) appear on the map drawn up by Cassini in 1760.

(Wikipedia)
Bordeaux is a port city on the Garonne River in the Gironde department in southwestern France.
The Bordeaux metropolitan area has a population of 1,105,000 and constitutes the sixth-largest urban area in France.
Bordeaux is the world's major wine industry capital.
The historic part of the city is on the UNESCO World Heritage List as "an outstanding urban and architectural ensemble" of the
18th century.
The 18th century was the golden age of Bordeaux. Victor Hugo found the town so beautiful he once said: "take Versailles, add Antwerp, and you have
Bordeaux". Baron Haussmann, a long-time prefect of Bordeaux, used Bordeaux's 18th century big-scale rebuilding as a model
when he was asked by Emperor Napoleon III to transform a then still quasi-medieval Paris into a "modern" capital that would
make France proud.
Bordeaux has about 116,160 hectares of vineyards, 57 appellations, 10,000 wine-producing châteaux and 13,000
grape growers. With an annual production of approximately 960 million bottles, Bordeaux produces large quantities of everyday
wine as well as some of the most expensive wines in the world. Included among the latter are the area's five premier cru
(first growth) red wines (four from Médoc and one, Château Haut-Brion, from Graves), established by the Bordeaux Wine
Official Classification of 1855.
